New York Daily News Loves the New 2018 Mazda CX-5

Our automaker's compact crossover just recently received a 2018 Daily News Autos (DNA) Award for "Best Small SUV," and with the slate of features the authority named favorites, we at Route 9 Mazda were already nodding in agreement.

The publication's editors selected the latest 2018 CX-5 for what the billed its "superior design, engineering, innovation, value, and dynamism." Aside from ride quality, they claimed, distinctive from other new SUVs, qualifications here included:

  • New cylinder-deactivation technology, capable of cutting fuel consumption by shutting off the 187-horsepower, 2.5-liter engine's two outer cylinders -- a feature that only Mazda offers on four-cylinder engines in North America
  • EPA-estimated fuel economy of up to 26-28 mpg combined, depending on your choice of front- or the celebrated i-ACTIV AWD® predictive all-wheel drivetrain
  • A whopping nearly 60 cubic feet of space for cargo with rear seating folded
  • A callout as one of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK recipients, with a highest "Good" rating for withstanding a crash
  • A host of new-for-2018 driver-assist features, from blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control with full-stop-and-go to lane departure warning and keep assist, automatic high-beam control, and low-speed automatic emergency brakes
  • Luxuries in Grand Touring like leather seating, a standard Mazda Navigation System, the convenience of a power liftgate, a glass moonroof that power-slides open with a touch, and a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system

Of course, these are just the beginning -- we knew there was much more to 2018 Mazda CX-5 that met the discerning journalistic eye. Take the short drive in from Newburgh, nearby Arlington, or the Wappingers Falls area to check one out for yourself here at our South Road showroom in Poughkeepsie. A test drive to remember will surely show you what we mean!
