A Brief History on the Mazda Miata MX-5

The new Mazda MX-5 Miata is highly regarded by drivers from Newburgh, Arlington, Wappingers Falls, and beyond because this convertible roadster combines an athletic attitude with an attractive design. With countless awards to its name, owning one is a rewarding experience and attests to the success of its rich history.

The first generation Mazda Miata MX-5 made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show back in 1989. Signature details like rounded taillights and integration with smooth-shifting gears put it on the spotlight. Come 1998, the second generation was introduced and saw an increase to power and additions of design elements like a soft top with a rear glass window. Then in 2000, it took on the reputation as the "best-selling two-seater sports car" in the world. A short while after achieving this milestone, the third generation model was released in 2005 with added steering wheel controls, a first-ever power retractable hard-top, and other innovations. Its design is refreshed in 2014 with a reduction in weight by as much as 148 pounds for greater agility. The fourth generation model was finally revealed in 2017 and now bears a retractable fastback roof and other modern innovations.

This longstanding history of the Mazda Miata MX-5 shows the continued development of this lineup and promises a bright future. It is with pride that we carry this model at Route 9 Mazda in Poughkeepsie, New York, and we could not be happier to offer our friends and neighbors the opportunity to enjoy the first-class Mazda experience.
